Android phone users must be eagerly waiting for the release of Google’s upcoming new software dubbed as Android L and the day seems to be not far off if reports have anything to go by. Google Inc. hasn’t officially announced the release date of the software but sources said that it could be launched on 24 October along with HTC Nexus 9 tablet.
Developer Paul O’Brien has tweeted that the HTC Nexus 9 will be released on 24 October, hinting that Android L could be launched earlier than expected, as it is likely to come with the upcoming tablet and the Nexus 6 aka Nexus X smartphone.
An interesting new tidbit from my Nexus 9 source, a UK ‘carrier launch’ slated for 24th October…

Interestingly, O’Brien’s tweet came just a few days after announcing that the HTC Nexus 9 would be launched on 16 October.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the much-awaited Nexus 6 aka Nexus X, which is likely to be announced on 31 October, will come with the new device. So, one can’t rule out the release of Android L on the day.
However, Android Authority has claimed that the final version of Android L won’t officially be available until 1 November despite the release of Google’s upcoming devices.
It is still not sure when Google will release the new software before making it available to Android smartphones, but going by the reports that have surfaced so far, it is likely to be launched along with the Nexus 9 tablet or the Nexus 6 aka Nexus X or in the first week of November.
Android L was announced at the Google’s I/O Developers Conference in June this year but its release date has been kept under wraps. The new software, which will come with a redesigned interface and fluid animations, besides improving battery life and compatible with 64-bit processors, is considered to be the biggest update Google has brought to its mobile platform till date, even bigger than the leap from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich software.
According to Android Geeks, the new software will give Android phone users a new feel, as “actions are animated, the interface is more colorful, and the 3D effects and shadows make the UI more intuitive.”
Several android phones are expected to get the new software update once it is launched but Google is expected to release it first to its devices like the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 before making it available to phones from other mobile phone makers. It is reported that the mentioned Nexus devices will get the software update as soon as it is released though not confirmed.
HTC has confirmed that Android L update will be made available to its latest smartphones – HTC One and HTC One (M8) – “within 90 days of receiving final software from Google.” Motorola has also said that Moto G will get Android L update. It didn’t make a mention of the 2nd generation Moto X but it is very likely to get the update.
SamMobile reported citing an insider that the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4 will get the new software update by the end of November or early December. Expert Reviews claimed in a report that the latest devices from LG might get Android L update.
